Tanzanian by birth, European by heritage, British-American by nationality, Jeannine Cook, a coastal Georgia resident, specializes in metalpoint drawing. As a child watching her grandfather develop black and white photographs in the darkroom, she grew to love the elegance of monochromatic images. Jeannine was thus influenced in her choice of drawing media, particularly silverpoint, with its lustrously subtle grey and white marks on prepared paper. She became an “ambassadress” for this unusual medium that requires patience and sureness of hand (erasure is difficult). Cook frequently lectures about metalpoint and also serves as curator for museum exhibitions of contemporary drawings. Her work is in many public collections in the US and Europe, including the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC; Telfair Museums, Savannah, GA; NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh; McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, TX; Fulton County Arts Council, Atlanta; and the Cummer Museum of Art, Jacksonville, FL.
