Lake City, SC –ArtFields (www.artfieldssc.org) is proud to present the second annual ArtFields Portrait Contest on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10 AM-3 PM at The Bean Market in Lake City, SC. Twenty-four artists will have the opportunity to compete for “Best in Show” and a $1,000 cash prize by creating portraits of local farmers who will serve as models for the event. The contest will consist of three rounds where the artists will have an hour to create the portrait. Artists at all levels from the Southeastern states are eligible to apply for the contest, including ArtFields 2014 Competition artists. Bring your friends and family to watch the action, witness the fun and hear the award announcement at 3:00 PM.
The first round will consist of 24 artists and 12 models. Artists will be paired off randomly and each pair will have a designated model. Portraits will be individually judged and then 12 artists will be selected to move forward. In the second round the artists will be placed in random groups of 4 and each group will be assigned one model. The judges will then have the difficult task of narrowing the number of artists down to 6. In the third round the competition heats up as 6 artists and 1 model set the stage for the final showdown. The “Best in Show” will be announced and will take home the $1000 cash prize.
There will be a 20-30-minute break between each round while portraits are being judged. Once judges finish deliberation and announce a winner for the round, the portraits will be displayed. The portraits will remain on display for an additional 30 minutes after the “Best in Show” is announced. Artists have the option of selling their portraits and will be responsible for handling all sales transactions. All proceeds from the sales will go directly to the artists.
Artists are responsible for their own medium, materials, art surfaces, easel and/or table. There is a size limitation of 18ʺ x 24ʺ. Please contact Carlie Lynch by email Carlie@artfieldssc.org or call (843) 374-0180 if there are questions about the medium.
