ArtFields is proud to present its third annual ArtFields Portrait Contest on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 10 AM-3 PM at The Bean Market in Lake City, SC. Twenty-four artists will have the opportunity to compete for “Best in Show” and a $1,000 cash prize by creating portraits of local farmers who will serve as models for the event. The contest consists of three rounds where the artists will have an hour to create the portrait. Artists at all levels from the 12 Southeastern states (AL, AR, GA, FL, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA WV) are eligible to apply for the contest, including ArtFields 2015 Competition artists.
The first round will consist of 24 artists and 12 models. Artists will be paired off randomly and each pair will have a designated model. Portraits will be individually judged and then 12 artists will be selected to move forward. In the second round, artists will be placed in random groups of four with one model assigned to each group. The third round of the competition heats up as six artists and one model set the stage of the final showdown. The “Best in Show” winner will be announced at 2:45 PM.
Contestants will have a 30 minute break between each round while portraits are being judged. Once judges deliberate and announce the winners of each round, the portraits will be displayed. They will remain on display for an additional 30 minutes after the winning artist is announced. Artists may sell their portraits after the contest and will be responsible for handling any sales transactions. All proceeds from the sales go directly to the artists.
Artists are responsible for their own medium, materials, art surfaces, easel and/or table. There is a size limitation of 18ʺ x 24ʺ for the portraits. Please contact Holly Shady by email Holly@artfieldssc.org or call (843) 374-0180 if there are questions about the medium.
To qualify artists must register at http://artfields.slideroom.com between February 20, 2015 and April 2, 2015 by 5 PM Eastern Time. There is a $35 non-refundable registration fee. Applicants are asked to submit 1-4 images of previous work, preferably, but not limited to, portraiture. A review panel will consist of South Carolina art professionals. Accepted artists will be notified on Saturday, April 11, 2015 via email.
