Rock Hill, SC
Described as a "painter's painter," Caroline Rust creates paintings and installations charged with expressionistic color and multiple layered surfaces. Underlying themes blend those which expose a woman's moments of extreme vulnerability, dare her sense of empowerment, and contemplate the practices to which she clings or repels as she approaches her dressing table. Rust's artworks are featured in national exhibitions, housed in several corporate collections, and procured by international and national collectors. To her credit, she has achieved numerous significant awards for her work, has a personal commitment to the arts community, and has accomplishments as a teacher of art and design at the college level. As an active member of the National Association of Women Artists in New York, NY, Rust is a repeat recipient of artist grants from both the Charlotte Mecklenburg Arts & Science Council and the Arts Council of York County. She served as an artist in residence at the McColl Center for Art+Innovation in 2015 and exhibits annually across the United States in group and solo exhibitions. Rust received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from East Carolina University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Winthrop University, both with a painting concentration.
