I was born and raised in Charleston, SC, with grandparents from Georgetwon and Hemingway, SC. After earning a BFA from the University of Georgis, I began my career in the visual arts. I am a Modern Impressionist, showing in several galleries in the US. I am an intensively and intuitive painter, and use my life's travel and learning experiences to make collectible art. I have been highly collected for 25 years. I am a colorist first, an abstract interpreter second, and I love texture. I use various sizes of palette knives and large brushes to lay traditional opaque oil color down in thin to thick layers, then after it dries, I brush transparent color glazes to bring a luminous effect to the viewer. What happens to me while composing a painting is an emotional and intuitive response of me "letting go" of the subject to let in my reaction to it. This magic happens which draws me in, and a confident addiction of painting those responses occurs, again and again. My look is simple in theme...AND if a more realistic theme, they are familiar places and feelings of places in uncomplicated content making my paintings contemporary or modernistic.
Frank Licciardi was a great influence on my oils. I follow his artistic bravado and dedication to expanding my professionalism. My work becomes what the hand, the mind and the heart respond to, in that time-standing-still moment. Carolina FEELINGS of a place is a great subject matter for me, never tiring of our great opportunities in the state.
