Susan Perkins was born in KY and reared in SC. As a child, Perkins became an artist on her way to dance class when she discovered an art store. She was captured by the endless possibilities for creativity the art supplies bestowed. Soon Perkins traded dance classes for art classes. She continued her art studies at the University of South Carolina and various workshops and classes through the years. Perkins' work is as much about contemplation as it is about craftsmanship. She observes her surroundings and expresses their affects upon her and our communities. Perkins often starts with drawings from her observations and then delicately tears to transform them into new beginnings. Perkins weaves, collages and sculpts paper and fiber. Her goal is to create with a beginner's mind and to express interconnection with our environment and to one another. Her current art project expresses the impact of gun violence. Her hope is for us to make conscious decisions for nonviolence. In 2012, Perkins won the New Texas Talent Award. Patron magazine and Modern Luxury Dallas featured an article on Perkins' work in 2013. Her work was selected for the Dallas Fine Arts Engagement Book in 2008 and 2007. Perkins' work has received favorable reviews. She currently resides in Charleston, SC and Dallas, TX and exhibits regularly in both cities. Corrigan Gallery, LLC, Charleston SC and JM Gallery, Dallas, TX represent Perkins. Her works are in many private collections. www.susanperkinsart.com
