With the breaking of the digital age of photography in the 1990s and the ability to immediately 'see' the image, my casual interest in the media became a driving avocation that led to turning professional and becoming a gallery owner.
Although I photograph sports, urban scenes, and people, the bulk of my work centers on Lowcountry scenes, wildlife, and culture. My passion is capturing nature, be it the egret feeding its young or the sun splashing its last rays over a coastal backwater. Equally important, is an ongoing documentary project of the men and women and their boats of the dying Carolina shrimping industry.
When taking and subsequently post-processing the image, I strive to capture mood-of the day, of the scene, of the action, to create an impact and place all into the finished art. Note the word "finished." That is how I became interested in printing. I print all of my work as this process helps me establish the 'mood' desired, fun but frustrating at times.
In the past three years, my works were accepted into the SC State Fair Fine Art “Photography” Division, garnering an award of merit (2014), second (2015) and first in 2016. My work has been featured on the covers of Alternatives, Local Scene, and Lowcountry magazines. Additionally, I was a featured artist in the Faces Exhibition at Sunset River Gallery, Calabash, NC.
I am the owner of the Lowcountry Art Gallery, Pawleys Island, SC.
