Landrum, SC
Influenced by her upbringing on the family horse farm and by the creativity of artists in her family, Arden grew up drawing horses and looking at the masters of sporting art. Her earliest art lessons took place at the barn with a half-shaved, half-fuzzy horse in the barn aisle. Fluorescent lights hit the slick, clipped body of the horse and revealed the musculature and bone structure hidden beneath. Her mother took advantage of this, teaching Arden to draw the anatomy of the animals that surrounded her.
Though her current work differs markedly from the traditional line of painting she studied as a child, the importance of internal structure informs her paintings to this day. In 2012, Arden graduated summa cum laude from Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. She earned a double major in Studio Art and Spanish. Since graduating, Arden has completed three residencies: the Chautauqua Institute School of Fine Arts (Chautauqua, NY), the Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT), and the Pike School of Art (McComb, MS).
Arden was accepted to Boston University’s Master of Fine Arts Program in the summer of 2015. She continues her investment in the arts as a serious
painter and founder/writer of the blog www.OneSouthContemporary.com.
