Leisa Rich is an unabashed “experimentalist” whose deafness and Canadian childhood spent communing in nature inspire her to create a sensorial, immersive hyper-real world that envelops and transports, and often invites others to be co-creators alongside her. Rich uniquely transforms ready-made materials, utilizes technology, and repurposes old things in new ways, into installations, sculptures, viewer interactive environments, and 3D printed, communal cell phone sound symphonies. She delights in drawing viewers in for a closer look and to share experience.
Rich holds MFA and BFA degrees in Fiber and a BEd in Art, and draws mostly from 42 years in the fiber arts. Rich exhibits internationally, has work in private and public collections: Emory Healthcare, Dallas Museum of Art, University of Texas-Pan American, University of North Texas and the Kamm Foundation. Her work has been featured in many books, magazines, blogs, and on PBS.
Rich has 42 years’ experience teaching at universities, Arrowmont, Snow Farm, and Peters Valley, and in Atlanta at The High Museum, Callanwolde, The Galloway School and in her studio. She exhibits internationally in biennials, curated museum exhibitions, and juried shows, and has won many awards. Rich has written for Fiber Art Now, Felt, Textile Fibre Forum AU, Arts ATL, Burnaway, and published a children’s book in 2015.
Rich sells her work on her website at www.monaleisa.com, in Signature Gallery, Atlanta, and at www.saatchiart.com/leisar.
