Susan Livingston is a mixed-media fiber artist living and working in Orangeburg, SC. She has worked in fiber, in various forms, for over 30 years, stitching her way through various layers and materials, incorporating found objects and combining techniques.
Livingston’s recent work focuses on natural dyeing with shibori resist and eco-printing on vintage textiles, often combined with embroidery and stitched text. Her installation for ArtFields 2017 consisted of 45 indigo silk panels, 9' in length, utilizing a single shibori resist pattern to replicate ocean waves. "A Fragile Beauty", suspended from the ceiling, swayed and rippled in a breeze supplied by a large vent nearby.
Recent exhibitions include ArtFields 2016 and 2017; Fiber: A National Juried Exhibition, 2016; Piccolo Spoleto Juried Fine Art Exhibition, 2015 and 2016; "Envisioning O'Keefe”, invited participating artist for a large-scale installation by Columbia, SC, artist Judy Hubbard, Columbia College, 2015; Palmetto Hands Fine Art Exhibition, multiple years.
