Lydia See is a multidisciplinary practitioner, educator, and curator of art and archives who is passionate about the uses of art for social justice and civic engagement.
Working primarily at the intersection of photography and fiber, her practice involves material and conceptual investigation through research and collection, and is rooted in history: literal and conceptual, local and global, intimate and environmental, personal and anonymous.
Her sculptural and photographic works invite the reconsideration of materials that are common in everyday domestic life: thread, fabric, vernacular photographs, collections and accumulations; and through processes of accumulation, transform the mundane materials into talismanic objects and object-photographs.
In her social and civic practice she advises as a creative consultant and strategist, works with nonprofits and small businesses to expand their engagement, builds inclusive and accessible programming, arranges collections and archives, among other varied projects. She curates regularly in both traditional and alternative art-viewing environments and runs a practice/process critique group, which focuses on critical dialog regarding the participant's recent and in process work.
