Flavia Lovatelli is a sustainable artist residing in Columbia, SC. Born of an Italian father and an American mother; she was raised in Northern Italy where her work won numerous prizes and awards in high school competitions. She made United States her home in 1979.
Lovatelli founded Art Ecologie Group. It is a movement of like-minded sustainable artists that bring the Annual ecoFAB Trash Couture, an acclaimed inspirational recycled fashion show and the traveling show “Deja Vu” a display of each artist’s ecoFAB Trash Couture piece with wall art and a sculpted piece to show how each influenced each other.
In 2012, she was chosen to be one of four artists speakers for Sustainable Charlotte during the DNC in Charlotte, NC. In 2014, she won ArtPop inaugural billboard campaign. In 2016, she won the ad campaign for the Charlotte Levine Center and in 2017, she won the Jones Carter Gallery Solo Show at ArtFields and the Residency at Tapp’s Art Center.
She is a mix, multimedia and three dimensional artist; her signature pieces are made from coiled paper. She was a pioneer sustainable artist before these terms existed or became popular. Her work is mostly made with repurposed materials.
Lovatelli loves the freedom of creating what she wants from random objects. She is held to no parameters and she is sold to no particular media. She likes them all and loves to cross breed them. This allows her to create many fun pieces and allows her the ability to awe the viewer with a piece of disposed material.
