Originally from Camden, South Carolina, Ron Hagell has been an artist all his life. Most recently he has been working in photography and film but also ventures into drawing and painting. Since 2007, a substantial number of his works have been installations with mixed media including digital film projections, drawings, photography and fabric.
A veteran of Vietnam, Hagell spent several years as an Intelligence Officer in the US Army. After that he began to pursue a career in television working for several PBS stations and eventually to NYC with Lifetime. He also taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, American University, Columbia University, Trenton State College and privately in London and Columbia, SC. His courses include screenwriting, filmmaking, acting, and art history and media art.
Haggell’s installation, photographic and film work is related to narrative, social issues, history, portraiture and dance. He has exhibited work across Europe as well as in Canada and the US. His most recent exhibitions were in Margate (UK), Columbia and Camden, South Carolina and at Artfields 2016.
Hagell holds an MFA in film from Columbia University and studied theater, art, media and photography at UNC, RISD and American University. He now lives in Columbia, SC, and keeps a studio at the Tapps Arts Center.
