Soulful figures textured with emotion emerge, revealing colorful, lyrical stories moving fluidly across canvas. Luck models the features of figures and natural forms using fragments of found paper. “The emotion in my work comes directly from the emotions I experience in life,” she explains. “As I assemble a collage, I often wish I could rearrange pieces of my life as I do pieces of colored paper. Each day I am reminded that life choices are not as easily moved.”
Luck is an award winning artist and muralist. She has exhibited her work frequently at galleries and museums across the US. Her work has also been shown internationally, most recently at Novilla during the Kumst Am Spreeknie Festival in Berlin. Monique is well known for her public art: Her mural with the Sprout Fund is featured in the PBS Documentary, “It’s the Neighborhoods.” She was honored to be chosen as an ArtPop artist of Charlotte and received a billboard featuring her artwork. She recently created a permanent public art installation at the Renaissance West Community Initiative with a grant from Bank of America. Currently, her artwork can be found at the Harvey B. Gantt Center Museum in Charlotte, NC, and part of the African American Museum of Dallas permanent collection.
