“False God” is a painting that represents an important period of my creative process as I evolved from representational/abstract landscapes toward geometric abstraction. My focus on unnatural geometric forms juxtaposed with a natural setting steeped in color and light was my response to personal, national and global events at the time. Geometry has always been a foundation of my work, appearing as natural forms in my landscapes, but here it is brought to the forefront, both as a central focus and also as individual entities that define both space and mood. Part of a brief series from late 2015 through 2016, “False God” is a seminal work that has propelled me to explore geometry and color on exciting new levels.
