Ellen Emerson Yaghjian is a sculptor working in copper to design fountains and create figurative works of art.
Yaghjian majored in art at the University of Georgia and while there took advantage of the resources offered by the exceptional Lamar Dodd School of Art. In the summer of her junior year she traveled to Cortona Italy for two months where she studied art with UGA Art Professor Jack Keyhoe. This deepened her interest in sculpture.
In 1976, Yaghjian received a BFA from the University of Georgia followed by a Masters of Media Arts from the University of South Carolina in 1979. Subsequently she worked for seven years in production at South Carolina Educational Television.
In 1985, she joined Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta as an Associate Producer for the series Portrait of America. After completion of the series, Yaghjian returned to creating three dimensional art.
In 1990, she received her first sculptural fountain commission. Over the past 27 years Yaghjian has continued designing and fabricating one of a kind fountains and copper sculpture. Her sculptures have been exhibited widely including at Spruill Art Gallery in Atlanta, McKissick Museum and the State Museum in Columbia, Artfields in Lake City, and most recently, at Francis Marion University in Florence. Her site specific fountains can be found in homes, gardens and public spaces throughout the Southeast.
Yaghjian lives and works in Columbia, SC, where both she and her husband, a painter, maintain studios.
