Melinda Hoffman (1949) is a graduate of Indiana University. She studied an additional year with Sydney Cross in the Print Department of Clemson University. While at Clemson, she developed an interest in “artistic voice” and the socio/political possibilities as an artist.
Melinda paints in both oil and acrylics, though her first love is printmaking. Brush strokes and speed of painting contribute to a style that is simplistic, working from a limited palate that leads to a harmonious color story visible in her work.
Melinda has work in the athletic department of Clemson University, at the Visitor’s Center of Magnolia Plantation, at the Naval Base in Charleston, SC, and in private collections throughout the region. She was juried into the 2011 China Print Festival and most recently was part of the National Print and Drawing Exhibition, Clemson University. She has installed works in the prestigious Artfields, Lake City, SC, in 2016 and 2017. Her works from the series Body Language now has a permanent home with Upstate Warriors, a non-profit supporting US soldiers and their efforts in faraway places.
Themes that will continue to present in art forms include natural resources; water, wind and sun, issues of guns and war, migratory forces affecting cultures around the world and the issues humans face in the real world.
