valdese, NC
Beau Lyday was born in Athens, GA. Under his father’s guidance, he made his first piece of furniture when he was six and has been making furniture ever since. After 35 years working in the furniture industry he has moved on to making his own unique furniture using reclaimed materials from barns he deconstructs. His work celebrates the age, texture and character of the wood and metal.
While I see myself as a furniture maker, sometimes especially in metal an idea transcends function and becomes sculpture. That is exciting and truly rewarding and I find myself going in that direction as an artist.
Beau was awarded a NC regional artist grant in 2014. In 2015, his work was selected to show at ArtFields, and was purchased by Moore Farms Botanical Gardens in Lake City, SC. He had a solo show in 2016 at the Old Rock School in Valdese, NC. In 2017, he was awarded best in show at the 32th annual Sculptor Celebration in Lenoir, NC.
