Dylan Critchfield-Sales was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD) in 2008 where he worked with Barry Nemett, Sangram Majumdar and Mark Karnes. During the Summer of 2007, he had the opportunity to study in Umbria, Italy at the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture where he continued to work with Barry Nemett as well as Dan Gustin.
In 2009, he was the recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields grant. In the spring of 2011, he completed his Master of Fine Arts at The Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts at Indiana University. Shortly thereafter, he spent six months as a studio assistant to the internationally renowned painter, Odd Nerdrum, in Norway and France. In 2011-12, he was an Artist in Residence at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, SC. Since then he has taught at the University of South Carolina and several other small venues in Columbia.
In the summer of 2016, he received a second Elizabeth Greenshields grant and, as a result, will be teaching a class with the Jerusalem Studio School in Civita Castellana in the summer of 2017. Dylan has shown in Baltimore, MD; Middletown, DE; Pittsburgh, PA; Naples, FL; Bloomington, IN; and Stavern, Norway.
