Jim Toub is a Professor of Art History and Assistant Chair in the Department of Art at Appalachian State University. He received his BA from Hampshire College and his MA and Ph.D. from the interdisciplinary University Professors Program at Boston University. For nearly ten years he lived in Aix-en-Provence, France where he taught art history and studio art at the Institute for American Universities and the Marchutz School of Art. Having lived in one of Cezanne’s studios at the Chateau Noir for most of his time in France, his research interests include, among other things, Cezanne’s late work and Cubists works inspired by them. Jim’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited widely in France and the United States. His articles have appeared in the “Journal of Aesthetic Education," “FATE in Review,” “The SECAC Review,” “Ethics, Place and Environment and Ceramics: Art and Perception.” His current artistic interests are in the areas of landscape studies, the aesthetics of sustainable design, and the map as a work of art and doodling.
