Burnsville, NC
Mark Woodham has been an artist from a young age. An insatiable drive to create has led him down a fascinating path. In his youth, he focused on drawing and watercolor painting, collecting accolades along the way. He dabbled in woodcarving and other 3D media, too. He attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for Arts and Humanities in 1986. Upon matriculating at University of South Carolina, he studied graphic design and eventually turned all of his attention to glassblowing. Upon graduation in 1991, after a short stint doing publication graphic design, he and two business partners founded a glassblowing studio. They started out in a barn in Bishopville, SC, and eventually moved back to Columbia, SC. During his 25 years as a partner at One Eared Cow Glass, they completed many public art projects and large installations. During this time, Woodham also worked in metal and wood as a hobby. In 2017, Woodham sold his portion of the business and moved to Burnsville, NC. Woodham and his partner/apprentice renovated an old auto parts shop into a wood and metal working studio and upscale gallery, MW Studios. Woodham specializes in contemporary and eclectic sculptures, furniture, and wall hangings. With reverence for the subject matter, Woodham is inspired by flora, fauna, and cultural artifacts. His new business endeavor and locale have no shortage of stimulus for his incessant creative drive.
