“Garden of Journey” is the creative platform that pays homage to the African and Indigenous diaspora while highlighting nature and biodiversity. Brittany George created the Garden in 2013, when she decided she needed an outlet to represent her being an Afro-American woman existing in the South. At that time, she was a new graduate from WSSU with a degree in Biology and Chemistry. Being submerged in life sciences fueled an even deeper consciousness to the gateways of art and nature where she began to visually map the magical parallels of all that is. And yet, solely focusing on a lucrative vocation left a sensation of lack fulfillment. By 2016, she decided it was essential that she answered her true calling, and so she leapt into the new year by faith and pursued art full time. She hasn’t looked back since.
As a woman of color in the new world, she was birthed into an immense heap of doubt. Society has told her things she refuses to believe about herself. That she is a daughter of slavery, that she is unworthy, that her voice is unheard. She uses her work to counteract this emptiness and serve purpose to inspire, to observe divinity, and to pause in reflection. Today, she is an exhibiting artist that caters her work to "artivism" that negates negative propaganda. She is passionate about her work and how she can use color therapy to uplift viewers into blossoming consciousness. She creates murals around Charlotte that connect the collective, in hopes not to portray, but to evoke.
