Jeromy Ross is a Savannah-based artist who received his BFA in sculpture and drawing from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, in 2012. Shortly after undergrad, he moved to Georgia to receive his MFA in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design, spring of 2016. Jeromy uses chance operations as a mechanism to determine the various outcomes of his paintings. Wheels, dice, pendulums, and other uncontrolled procedures are several of the implements he uses to produce each piece. Color choice, composition, and mark making are decided from these methods of chance as a way of inhibiting a biased aesthetic control. His procedures are designed and regimented in a way that is similar to a scientific experiment. These initial orderly procedures are used to provide and contrast the indeterminate outcome of each piece. By using the exponential growth of indeterminacy, the paintings become a visual representation of chaos theory. His fascination with quantum mechanics and chaos theory are the primary focus within his present body of work. His paintings are presently on exhibit throughout several locations in the Southeast as he continues his experimentations within his studio.
