Brian Rust resides in Augusta, GA, and is best known as a public artist, but also creates sculptural installations, mixed-media collages, and clay works. Brian was born in the Washington state and received a BFA from the University of Washington and a MFA from UC Berkeley. Brian is currently a full professor for the Department of Art at Augusta University in Augusta, GA, where he teaches sculpture, ceramics, and World Humanities. Brian has exhibited his sculpture, installations, and collages in venues throughout the United States including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia in Atlanta, GA, the Melvin Johnson Sculpture Garden at the Chautauqua Institution in NY; the South Carolina Botanical Garden in Clemson, SC; the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park in Cazenovia, NY; and Georgetown University in Washington, DC. On a local level, Brian was chosen by Greater Augusta Arts Council in 2009 as the Individual Artist of the Year. Brian was recently commissioned to create a set of eight large outdoor photo-based sculptures in Lexington, KY, as part of the Eco Art which was funded through the city of Lexington and Lexarts. Other recent activity includes a major reworking of an earthwork titled “Natural Infinity Revisited” in 2016 in Missouri at the Lay Center for Education and the Arts Sculpture Park.
