This project is a scrapture (a word I created that combines scrap materials and sculpture). As the world grows and progresses, so do the inventions within the world. That is what Toyborg represents, how playthings are becoming more advanced and technological, possibly limiting the use of imagination in play. It is constructed out of old toys to create a whimsical design that draws nostalgia from the viewer. The metallic copper finish emphasizes the technological aspect of many new toys. In contrast, the whimsical design and construction of old toys showcase the childlike sense of wonder that inspired the piece. Toyborg is a symbol of preserving child-like wonder and imagination while making way for the progress of the future.
