Swell explores the universality of the cycle of life from a grouped and an individual perspective. Like a visual journal inspired by life’s varying terrain, this installation reflects upon a range of experiences including both life-altering events, as well as the mundane. Each bird is made from birdseed, or sunflower seeds that provide sustenance for birds. Like the birds, each seed is distinctively individual just as each sunflower is unique, and as each viewer is unique. In this way, the individuality of each viewer’s experience is qualified through the individual’s own luminosity, emphasizing the changing nature of perception and bringing this endeavor full-circle.
