Farmhouses line the rural southern landscape, each with a personality and story of their own. Many of these treasures are decaying with the passing of time; however, a few of these time capsules are maintained and opening their doors takes you back in time. Light filters through their windows illuminating the architecture and artifacts passed down through generations of family members. The simplicity within the walls can be both haunting and beautiful. The farmhouse in this painting is a Carolina “I” house(1750-1850), that is shrouded in stories of its previous inhabitants. Growing up beside it, the artist heard countless stories of Tumpy making appearances to ward off unwanted guests.  While painting on site, she was astounded by the beauty within its walls. The light would trickle in late afternoon making everything on the mantle seem to come alive. She would lose herself in its mysterious beauty, while still being conscious of watchful eyes.
