Charron Andrews is a self-taught artist and physical therapist. She took the first unconscious steps in her creative life when she became a childhood alley picker in her Detroit neighborhood. However, it wasn't until I was nearly 50 years old that she started making art out of things that other people would consider trash.
Even though Andrews grew up in a big Catholic family, she never felt especially religious, but she does associate her church with her home, her neighborhood, her family, and her developing female identity. Home, neighborhood, and family were at the core of how she sees herself. One of the strongest pleasures of her childhood was the time she spent wandering around the alleys of her neighborhood, finding discarded things and bringing them home to a new life. She likes to think that all broken things can have a renewed expressive life if given a chance.
