I grew up in Sauk Village about 20 miles south of downtown Chicago, right on the Illinois-Indiana border. It is named after the native Americans that once roamed there. Much of my childhood was spent with a book or pencil in hand, drawing cartoons and giant robots. I wrote stories and created my own worlds, populated with my own superheroes and monsters. Now at age 45 and after living for two decades in Florida, I am about to graduate with my MFA from Florida State University.
I now spend a great deal of time experimenting with abstracted forms based off of my drawings. These forms are all inspired by thoughts about the subconscious and the brain's ability to process information. Ideas about language, dreams, emotion, and semiotics are all present within my work. My recent work consists of large-scale sculptures from my abstract iconography with animations projection mapped onto its surface. In the future I hope to make these even more interactive.
