Born and raised in Atlanta, Mia Merlin is a painter and instructor of Painting, Drawing and Art Appreciation at the Armstrong campus of Georgia Southern University. She is a mom, wife, daughter, sister and aunt too. She says the process of painting allows her to appreciate the world and to experience its complexity and mystery. Most of her work is autobiographical, and an intimate study of the hidden worlds within the familiar.
Merlin received an undergraduate degree in Comparative Religion and received her MFA from Georgia State University in 2003. Since then she has been teaching since at a variety of Universities including Spelman College, Kennesaw State University and Emory University. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally in Vatican City and Bahrain. She has had solo exhibitions at the University of West Georgia, Emory University, Georgia State University, Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and was represented in Atlanta at Fay Gold Gallery.
