I was born in Texarkana, AR in 1958, and grew up in Natchez, MS. I've been making hyper-realistic, trompe l'oeil wood carvings of inanimate objects, mostly clothing, and quilts since 1982. I carve objects we tend to hold on to even after they're no longer useful in any practical sense; things we keep in the back of the closet because we have a personal attachment to them.
Over the years I've shown my work in all sorts of venues, from street festivals to museums. I currently show my work mostly in commercial galleries. In 1997 I received the top prize in The Smithsonian Craft Show, and in 2013 I finished in the top 10 at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, MI.
What I do is not my hobby. It's been my sole source of income for the past 31 years.
