Jarrod Houghton was born in Winfield Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture with distinction in 1999. With a full tuition Scholarship from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, IL, Houghton received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in 2002 in Sculpture. He is currently a Senior Instructor in Foundations at Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In his ongoing body of work about the human landscape, he is investigating the visual ideas of human actions creating a dystopian future world. Not so much in the future that we cannot see ourselves in it, but just enough to act as a possible eye opening, voyeuristic endeavor by the viewer. In the process of creating small worlds I also get a look inside my own mind as I try to condense time into a single moment. Every object is contemplated, scrutinized and controlled so as to lead the viewer through my narrative.
