My name is Rick, and I am a self-taught abstract painter living in Durham, North Carolina. My most recent work is inspired by the theme of gender. More specifically, I examine my own learned masculinity, and challenge that indoctrination by choosing colors and shapes that I think are beautiful but not “masculine.” I refuse to be bound by this gendered limitation and paint as a way to push back against it.
