Steve Loucks received his MFA in 1985 from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and his BFA in 1983 from the University of Illinois. He is a full-time studio artist after retiring from Jacksonville State University where he was a Full Professor of Art and is Professor Emeritus. Steve wrote and published, “Glazes from a Potter’s Perspective: a Simple, Kitchen-Method Approach to Understanding Glazes". He continues his artistic career by conducting technique and glaze workshops at Craft schools and art centers. Steve was awarded an Alabama State Council on the Arts Fellowship in Crafts twice and a Southern Arts Federation/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Crafts as well as many awards in national juried competitions. At the National Council on the Education of the Ceramic Arts, Steve has been a lecturer, lead panelist, presenter, Glaze Doctor, and Topical Group Discussion Leader numerous times. He also works with laminated and natural wood.
