Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings wrote “I do not understand how anyone can live without some small place of enchantment to turn to." I have found my place of enchantment. I live and work in the midst of pure hardwood hammock, on property that quickly slopes downward; mere feet from precious and still protected wetlands. This tiny patch of earth affords me a deep sense of place. It's where I live my everyday moments and where I connect to the mystical and the spiritual. To share this space with the animals, insects, trees, and plants is a privilege. To walk this virgin land with the light of a glowing full moon spilling through the leaves is a rare and unearthly thing. My Florida roots go back to my great grandparents. Over the course of my life, I've watched great chunks of the state swallowed up by development, ever increasing population, and soon, by global warming. I know that the world I experience every day will not always be here.
