"Numbers Have No Emotion" quilt, and project board show the naïve feelings of my autistic son during the quarantine. The first purchase we made was a bubble machine. On 3/13/2020 his school, therapy, and the world stopped. His routines ended, tantrums started and we headed outside to bubbles. As we stayed home and danced in floating spheres I envisioned as COVID 19 viruses. My artwork documents the time between 3/13-5/15 and is represented in the cathedral pattern. Numbers are insignificant until you have a loved one infected with COVID. On 3/13, 180 people in SC were infected, 50 died. On 5/15, 8,035 people in SC were infected and 362 died. On 5/24, 100,000 lives were lost in the US. The pattern at the bottom shows the numbers of cases and deaths in the US on 5/15. There were 85,017 deaths and 1,430,243 people were infected. Globally there were 297,682 deaths and 4,371,611 people were infected. Numbers and statistics will add up, but what is the emotional impact of numbers?
