I’ve always been curious why people are so scared to stand up for what’s right. I guess this comes from my upper-middle class upbringing. I’ve lost jobs because I was advocating for higher wages, but I’ve always been able to find another job. In our culture it feels like people are more and more afraid to speak out on sensitive issues, like race, religion and sexuality, but I think it’s facing these discomforts that actually helps to heal the wounds, not avoiding them.
While in high school, I decided that I wanted to become an Architect, because I saw it as a way to take my artistic talents and create something that could tangibly improve people’s lives. After graduating in 2011, I have designed dozens of homes, offices & restaurant interiors that impact people’s lives. However, I hope to use the same problem-solving approach that I use in my work to contribute to some of our societal and cultural struggles in America. If we continue to avoid the issues, they will only get worse.
