Having lived most of my life in Virginia, life changed when I first touched clay. As an undergraduate, studying painting I was compelled to take ceramics classes. Love of clay led me to complete a Masters in Fine Arts a decade ago. I love throwing and handbuilding, and sculpting became a natural progression while working conceptually with clay. Numerous awards and three Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowships validated my talent with the medium. Teaching ceramics at a local community college and the Governor's School for the Arts feeds my desire to educate others about a medium which gives me so much pleasure. When someone new gets "on fire" for clay it makes me happy, because I get it!
Working without a personal studio, glaze testing and experimenting with the clay surface remains a passion. Creating beautiful functional forms with exquisite glazes and totally non-functional pieces which usually convey a universally held, often disguised message has become my life dream.
