Shortly after this piece began, the door to an unhealthy addiction that had been closed in my life the previous ten years had been reopened. I only mention that because when I started focusing on this piece with the eyes of my heart and not the circumstances I was struggling with, things started happening. Never have I invited God to be a part of my artwork with a sincere heart like I did with this piece, but through prayer, He led me in all aspects of this painting. Scripture tells us “… the heart is deceitful above all things…”(Jeremiah 17:9) but we are comforted in also knowing through His word that “…I will replace your heart of stone with a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26). To me, this painting describes the point in between those two scriptures – which is the conviction of a heart leads one closer to God. The twisting and turning around sharp points that surrounds the heart in this piece is that convicted area.
