This work was intended on being the start of a series, to bring to light the human experience of sustainable farming in the low country. As we move into the future, agriculture is both one of our greatest assets aswell as one of our greatest obstacles in the fight against environmental collapse. It is more important than ever that we as communities become reconnected with the land and view it’s survival as paramount with our own. No one knows or feels this more keenly, than an organic farmer, often the silent superhero's of our environment. As a portrait painter, I feel it is my job to communicate the spirit of my subject, and create an opportunity for my audience to feel connected to them. I hope in these paintings, others will see themselves in these honorable workers, and be more inclined to think of where their food may have come from.
