I came across these young women while I was walking through Freedom Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. They immediately caught my eye as they were enjoying the first day of spring break on a beautiful afternoon. The way they were dressed and their positioning on the bank of the lake inspired me. This moment of carefree youth at the precipice of adulthood intrigued me, and I immediately knew I wanted to capture it in oil paint. Since this occurred before Covid quarantining and social distancing, bringing this image to the canvas was even more important to me now. The camaraderie and friendship exhibited by these women took me back to a time and place that may be long gone. I hope it connects with viewers in a way that makes them treasure those fleeting moments with friends.
