Indira Bailey is an artist, illustrator, and educator. She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey and attended Pratt Institute, receiving a BFA in Illustration, a M.A. in Educational Leadership from Kean University, and a dual-title Ph.D. in Art Education and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies from The Pennsylvania State University. Bailey has received Fulbright Fellowships to Morocco, South Africa, and Japan, as well as artist residency to Panama and research grant to Ghana. This year in 2021, Bailey has exhibited in the juried Black Creativity at the Science and Industry Museum in Chicago, Artist’s Collective in Spartanburg, SC, and the faculty exhibition at Claflin University. Bailey is taught art for over 20 years in the K-12 sector, museums, community, and prison art programs. She has created a blog that highlights Black women artists. Bailey currently is an Assistant Professor of Art Education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC.
