Artist: Overstreet Ducasse | Location: Jacksonville, FL
Jacksonville, FL
Born in Haiti, Overstreet Ducasse came to the United States at age six. Faced with a new environment, language, and culture, he turned to the universal language of art as a way to release his frustrations and aggravations. This became his means of expression and communication.
Today, Ducasse’s work is captivating, direct, and abundant with metaphors and meaning inspired by a desire for reason and understanding. His paintings, assemblages, and installations are expressions of his life experiences as well as his true intellect. His ideas go beyond the visual and he creates on a variety of mediums: from traditional canvas to wood frame doors. Ducasse has been named a Cultural Ambassador for the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville exhibiting in Bristol, England. He has also shown work in South Africa at the Mandala Museum. He has been awarded the Art Ventures Individual Artist Grant and recently won Best in Show at the Decatur Arts Festival Fine Arts Exhibition in Decatur, Georgia.
