Trudy Thomson

I am drawn to rhythms and patterns found in nature... ripples and waves of water, effects of surf on sand, the swirls of clouds, fluttering of leaves on trees, multifaceted shapes of buds and flowers, the feathered wings of birds. My works explore cross currents of color, pulsing of fibers, and shifts in hue which result in imagery depicting shapes and “scapes”. When I create tapestries I apply a range of techniques and position variegated dyed fibers to denote shifts in visual space.

After college I studied textiles at Rochester Institute of Technology, then moved to Chapel Hill to receive a Master’s Degree in Visual Design/Media. I continued my interests in crafts with intensive experimentation for many years. I am a member of the Orange Country Artists Guild in Chapel Hill and have served as Tour Coordinator while on the board. I am also a member of Durham Arts Guild, ArtSpace in Raleigh, Triangle Visual Artists and Pittsboro Gallery of Arts.
