My current body of work explores the struggle and beauty that can be found in the repetition, rhythm, and emotion of daily life. Leveraging personal subjects, experiences, and feelings, I examine how the identities of individuals are shaped by the recurrence of paths, words, images, and interactions over time. My work highlights that repetition does not always breed comfort and reassurance; instead, it often reveals our vulnerabilities and desires. Inspired by my family and my own transformation from daughter to mother, my latest paintings push the depths to which I examine the psychological conditions of my subjects. A self-portrait, Lines on My Face explores my own identity as a woman and mother. The lines on my face are literal and imagined, representing the merging of person and role. Lines of my dress continue and dominate the natural lines of my skin, evoking the paths that lead to motherhood and the subsequent paths that role directs and requires of an individual.
