Throughout the course of the pandemic I've been looking out my back door...quite a lot. We live on the edge of the woods and I've been able to observe the birds, trees, and spiders. Years ago, in grad school, I created an imaginary wooded scene, weaving in 3-D (using wire wrapped with yarns) and always yearned to create a series of seasons with a similar technique, but never had enough time. So no more excuses, plenty of time now to create the fall version of the sculptural weaving. I used a large frame to wrap a variety of yarn around to create the tree trunks first, then added branches, leaves and grasses using a variety of techniques... wrapping, felting, stitching and weaving. I even included the golden orb spider web that recently inhabited our area... due to warmer temperatures here. I just let it flow and created as it grew, responding to the colors, shapes, edges and textures. Creating a series over time gives a perspective to growth and change.
