Atlanta, GA
Mia Anika is an artist and mental health advocate from Atlanta, Georgia. She advocates for holistic approaches to mental health and wellness and explores emotional regulation through her work. Creative expression is key to resolving mental and emotional conflicts to provide a path to healing: Art Heals the Broken.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Julie Mehretu, Mary Lovelace O’Neal, Emily
Garfield, and Sam Gilliam, she creates map-like imagery to depict liminal spaces, emotional
states and the transitions between thought processes and moods.
She recently led workshops on the role of creative expression and fine arts in
communal resilience, at the 2019 Black Solidarity Conference at Yale University, and at the
2019 Mental Health Matters Conference at Clark Atlanta University. Her work has appeared at
Decatur Arts Alliance, TILA Studios, Still Point Gallery, Mahogany Gallery, ELEVATE Atlanta 2021, and in the Fulton County Arts and Culture public collection.
