This piece investigates personal memory, dividing time through different places I have called home. It takes the form of six consecutive prints of a single copper etching plate, continually reworked, added to and subtracted from with every stage. It begins with a simple line drawing of the living room in my first home after moving to Georgia in 2019. This is the context through which the suceeding prints investigate every other home I've held since moving out on my own at 18, in reverse chronological order. Having not known a soul in Georgia when I first moved, this home was a clean slate to be filled with uncertain memories and relationships to come. It forms the overall composition since the present is always the shape through which our past is understood. Every other print sums up one period of time with the images, objects and spaces associated with the particular home of that era. The images chosen represent specific memories but also become symbols for broader themes of that time.
