Matthew Torchiana Hoban is the fifth child of six, born in Philadelphia. Originally attending undergraduate school for music technology at Drexel University, he transferred his junior year to the Tyler School of Art. Though music and recording still serve as critical creative outlets in his work, having written and produced over seven lofi albums, art education exposed him to a variety of visual mediums. Among these were ceramics, sculpture, and what would become his undergraduate focus, printmaking. After graduating from Tyler in 2018, he worked at Second State Press, a community-based print shop in the Crane Arts building in Philadelphia. In Fall 2019, he began his MFA at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA, branching out his work to include collage, assemblage and animation as means of investigating the architecture of memory and personal narrative. He has had two multimedia solo exhibitions, and participated in group shows in Philadelphia, Athens, Atlanta, New York, and Lake City.
