Barbara Hennig-Loomis is a working artist residing on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Her formal education includes a BFA in Art History, graduate study in the same, and an MFA in Visual Studies with a concentration in drawing and painting. Her home and studio lie in a woods flanked by farmland on wide side, and the Chesapeake Bay on the other; in recent years most of her creative impetus has come from the intersection of these elements.
Her favored medium is silverpoint, an exacting if not anachronistic process whereby a mark is made by dragging a silver stylus across a prepared surface. Once made, the mark evolves over time as it tarnishes, becoming darker, warmer and more luminous. The character of silverpoint lends itself well to Barbara's current body of work, which focuses on the changes apparent in her immediate environment set against a backdrop of universal constants.
