Born in 1954 (the oldest of two children) and raised in an extended family in upstate South Carolina. My family consisted of my mother, aunts, uncles, cousins, brother, and grandparents.
I attended public school in, both, Seneca and Clemson South Carolina. My elementary education was at East End Elementary in Seneca and my High School education was at D. W. Daniel High School in Clemson. After graduation from high school in 1972, I continued my education at Greenville Museum School of Art (1973-1974), South Carolina State University (1975-1979 [Art Ed.]), and Clemson University (1983-1986 [MFA]).
I began teaching in 1980 and retired in 2018 after 35 years of teaching service
