In the past 25 years, the number of deaths from drug overdose has more than quintupled. This epidemic has ended and harmed hundreds of thousands of lives across the US, all in the despicable and insatiable pursuit of endless wealth. The Sackler family, ‘Big Pharma’, and countless greed driven medical practitioners made the conscious decision to encourage the use of, and overprescribe, opioids. They did this knowing the devastating consequences of their choices and actions. The uncountable individuals who fall victim to their predatory disregard find themselves trapped between the pain they are already suffering and the crippling addiction that can easily overwhelm them, and ruin their lives. These unscrupulous business and medical practices demonstrate an unforgivable disregard for people, viewing them only as a way to enrich oneself, not as human beings at all. This opioid crisis is, sadly, just one example of how people and lives get dehumanized in favor of corporations and profits.
